THE VISIT

unrealised costume design

Process

Script by Friedrich Dürrenmatt

Adapted by Tony Kushner

Design Concept | Much of my research revolved around Depression-era communities and Hoovervilles in 1930's America to depict the inhabitants who lived in extreme poverty in the village of Slurry. In contrast, the visiting entourage needed to look strange and out of place; for this I took inspiration and derived my color palette from the painting "The Dream" by Henri Rousseau

Fabric Swatches+Breakdown

When swatching for the costume renderings, I wanted to experiment with some intense fabric breakdown to see how wear and tear could affect my color palette. I emulated the effect of sun bleached clothing by leaving fabric in bleach, and applying it in certain areas to change the color of the fabric in uneven patterns
